The highly anticipated John Cena vs. United States Champion Austin Theory match took place on opening night at WWE WrestleMania 39 from SoFi Stadium.

Cena was in control of Theory with a series of shoulder blocks that was frustrating Theory. Theory bit the ear of Cena and attacked him from behind. Theory with a rolling blockbuster out of the corner for 2. Cena tripped Theory and put him in the STF, but Theory got out of it by biting him. Theory countered the AA into a DDT. After being in a sleeper, Cena fired up and hit his five moves of doom. Cena went for the AA, but accidentally knocked down the referee before putting Theory in the STF and Theory tapped. Theory delivered a low blow and then hit his “A-Town Down” finisher to retain his United States Championship.
